When Beyoncé launched her hair care line Cécred, it felt like more than just another celebrity brand moment. Co-created with her mom Tina Knowles, the line took six years to develop and promised thoughtful, salon-rooted care for textured hair. As someone with naturally wavy hair that gets greasy fast yet frizzes even faster, I was curious but cautious. So the next logical step was testing the Clarifying Shampoo and Scalp Scrub.
I have 2B to 2C wavy hair that needs frequent cleansing but hates being stripped dry. I use lot of different hair products for my beauty blogs, so build-up is real. My scalp gets oily by midweek, but clarifying too often can make my waves go haywire.
So I decided to try this shampoo-scrub once every two weeks as a reset.
The bottle feels premium and smartly designed. The twist cap opens to reveal a nozzle that makes direct application to the scalp super easy. I didn’t need much, just a dollop. The texture is creamy with a light grit thanks to microcrystalline cellulose, and it lathers more than I expected for something sulfate-free.
Infused with fermented purple willow bark and tea tree oil, the product delivers a fresh, clean feeling without being harsh. It also includes niacinamide, lemon, peppermint, and rosemary for scalp health and a subtle minty scent that lingers pleasantly. After massaging it into my scalp and letting it sit for two minutes, I rinsed and followed up with a conditioner to keep my waves hydrated.
The result was a weightless, clean scalp with no leftover residue. My waves felt more defined and my roots lifted. It didn’t dry out my hair or irritate my scalp. In fact, the light tingle from the tea tree oil felt more like a mini spa session than a shampoo.
For wavy hair types, this product sits in the sweet spot between too stripping and too gentle.
It’s great for removing build-up without flattening your waves or making them puff up uncontrollably. I’d recommend using it biweekly or monthly depending on your styling habits. If you use a lot of products or wear protective styles, it’s a fabulous option for cleansing between transitions.
The price tag is a bit high, but considering how little product is needed per use and that it’s not meant for daily washes, I think it’s a fair investment. Plus, the bottle and experience feel luxurious, which honestly matters when you’re trying to romanticize your wash days.
If you’re looking for a high-end clarifying treatment that respects your wave pattern and doesn’t leave your scalp screaming for moisture, this one’s worth trying. I didn’t know my wavy hair needed a Beyoncé-level detox until I gave it one.
